Bloomington, Minnesota Real Estate

Bloomington, Minnesota, lies 10 miles south of downtown Minneapolis and about 20 miles southwest of downtown Saint Paul, near the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers.

With a population of nearly 83,000 hale and hearty Minnesotans, Bloomington is not only the state’s fifth largest city, but also the beating heart of the Twin Cities’ southern metropolitan area.

The city was founded in 1843 and incorporated in 1858. It spreads magnificently over more than 38 square miles of Hennepin County, 3.74 square miles of which is water. It is in Bloomington that you will also find some of the Minnesota’s signature features, including the Mall of America, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge.

Shopping and Dining

The Mall of America is home to more than 520 specialty and retail stores, 50 ethnically and economically diverse restaurants, Nickelodeon Universe and SEA LIFE Minnesota Aquarium. But the fabulous shopping alternatives, dining destinations and entertainment venues in and around Bloomington extend well beyond this 4.2 million-square foot megamall.

Bloomington’s own Southtown Shopping Center has been a local landmark since opening its doors in 1960. The city’s south-central suburban location makes it conveniently close to both Minneapolis’ and Saint Paul’s burgeoning shopping, dining and entertainment areas, as well as myriad options in its neighboring suburbs. Some of the other stand-out destinations in these areas include, but are not limited to, the following:

Parks and Recreation

The City of Bloomington’s Parks and Recreation Division webpage provides the details on the more than 8,000 acres of nature-friendly open spaces and serene, peaceful parkland within the city’s limits. The City of Bloomington website also offers an exceptional array of helpful features, such as a comprehensive A-to-Z park listing and a highly detailed city parks map.

In addition to the aforementioned Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, Bloomington real estate provides a kaleidoscopic array of special recreational facilities and signature sites. Here is a list of just a few of them:

There are several other major employers in town, such as Mall of America, Seagate Technology and Bloomington School District #271.

One other enviable attraction neighboring Minneapolis offers that even some of the nation’s much larger cities can’t is a team for which to cheer in each major professional sports league: the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, Major League Baseball’s Minnesota Twins, the Minnesota Timberwolves of the NBA, and the National Hockey League’s Minnesota Wild, which plays its home games in Saint Paul.
