Parks and Recreation

Everyone knows that Minnesota is the Land of 10,000 Lakes, right? Heck, it's even the state's official motto, emblazoned across license plates for the whole world to see. And in this Land of 10,000 Lakes, one would be hard pressed to find a more sparkling, quintessential embodiment of all that a Minnesota lake can be than Lake Minnetonka, the beautiful shoreline of which lies near the city of Minnetonka.

Bring the whole family to Lake Minnetonka Regional Park for some nautical-themed fun! The wee little ones will love the park's play area, which is open from 9 a.m. to sunset every day (during the relatively warmer months of the year), and its sandy-bottom, chlorinated swimming pond. Gather the clan around some of the park's lakeside picnic areas, and take advantage of its fishing pier, and hiking and biking trails.

Among the City of Minnetonka's Park and Trail Maintenance department's many duties is the management and maintenance of the community's 17 athletic fields, 10 hockey and 10 outdoor ice skating rinks, and 81 miles or so of pristine trails and serene city sidewalks. Other city-owned recreational facilities include the Minnetonka Community Center, Gray’s Bay Marina, Williston Fitness Center, and the Lindbergh Center.


The City of Minnetonka's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the year 2011 showed that its major employers include UnitedHealth Group, Cargill, AmeriPride Services and Carlson Companies.

The city information website, Sperling's Best Places, tells us that Minnetonka's median home cost in 2012 was $259,900, with an appreciation of 1.09 percent and an unemployment rate of about 5 percent, compared to the U.S. average of 8.6 percent.

One other enviable attraction that neighboring Minneapolis offers, that even some of the nation’s much larger cities can’t, is a team for which to cheer in each major professional sports league: the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, Major League Baseball’s Minnesota Twins, the Minnesota Timberwolves of the NBA, and the National Hockey League’s Minnesota Wild, which plays its home games in Saint Paul.

Schools, Health, Transportation

There are educational offerings aplenty in and around Minnetonka. The vast majority of the city's public K-12 schooling is provided via the efforts of three independent school districts: Hopkins School District; Minnetonka School District; and Wayzata School District. The International Spanish Language Academy (ISLA) is the local public charter school, and the area's private school options include Immaculate Heart of Mary; Minnetonka Christian Academy; and Sleepy Tigers Chinese Learning Center.

Some of the myriad medical care facilities, health care centers, and hospitals and emergency rooms conveniently accessible to residents of Minnetonka, MN real estate include Fairview Southdale Hospital, North Memorial Medical Center and Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital.
